An award winning re-working of a 1950s council house in South London.
This originally uninspiring building has been completely altered to create a contemporary living space. The post-war red brick was rendered and a timber and glass extension added.
The velvet black colour of the house may not be an obvious choice but together with the piercing yellow of the windows clearly indicates the dramatic transformation.
Behind this almost forbidding front lies an element of surprise. With the internal re-design the living areas have been moved to the rear. Sunlight enters through the full height glass facade of the extension and the view of the garden gives a sense of space immediately upon entering the house.
